SCHIERMONNIKOOG – Op Schiermonnikoog is donderdagmiddag rond twaalf uur een grote duinbrand uitgebroken.
Het vuur woedt in de omgeving van het Minne Onnespad en daar is een flinke rookpluim te zien. Momenteel krijgen de brandweerlieden hulp van boeren met giertanks die de brandweer voorzien van water. Ook zijn er brandweereenheden vanaf het vaste land onderweg naar Schiermonnikoog. Daarnaast is er een blushelikopter van defensie opgeroepen om te assisteren met het blussen van de brand.
Een groot gebied rondom het vuur is afgezet. Toeristen worden gevraagd om het gebied te verlaten. Vanwege de droogte is op Schiermonnikoog sinds deze week een rook- en stookverbod van kracht. Hoe de brand is ontstaan, is niet bekend.
